Hardwood Installation

Now that you have selected the hardwood variety you love, it’s time to get ready for installation!
Follow these helpful steps to be prepared before, during, and after the process is complete.

Before your hardwood installation

Prepare for your installation by first removing all furniture, electronics, and wall hangings from the rooms and closets. Since hardwood planks cannot be installed over an existing surface, the current floors will need to be removed and disposed of entirely. Hardwood requires a completely level subfloor so all imperfections will need to be repaired. Once your subfloor is assessed, you are ready for installation! Bring the hardwood planks in the home to acclimate for 48 hours before installation.

Hardwood installation process

On the day of your new hardwood installation, plan to stay home to answer any questions that arise for your installation crew. Designate an area in the home for the crew to keep installation tools such as hammers and saws, store boxes of flooring before they are installed, as well as cut planks to size as needed. Keep all children and pets away from the installer’s area and rooms receiving new hardwood. Establish adequate ventilation in the home as suggested by the installers.

Once your new hardwood is installed, it’s important to wait for the appropriate amount of time recommended by your installers before the floors can receive foot traffic or return furniture. Always lift furniture or use appropriate moving equipment with rollers to avoid scratches when bringing pieces into the rooms. We also recommend using felt protectors under the legs of heavy furniture to reduce impact.
